Lehigh County, Pennsylvania was first settled about 1730 and officially constituted in 1812 with the division of Northampton County.

Maria Barbara Brandstetter Peter was born on February 11, 1774 in Heidelberg Township Northhampton County (now Lehigh County), Pennsylvania. She was the daughter of John Jacob Brandstetter and Maria Margaretha Bloß.

She married Johannes (John) Peter. Johannes was born on May 12, 1768 in Heidelberg Township, Lehigh County, Pennsylvania.

Johannes and Barbara's children included:
Michael Peter (December 14, 1782, married Susanna Rinker and Maria Merckel),
Daniel Peter (December 20, 1790, married Margaretha Hensinger),
Salome Peter Krauss (September 3, 1794, married Peter Krauss/Krause), and
Magdalena Peter Mohr (January 1, 1800, married William Mohr).

In 1784 they were sponsors for Anna Margaretha Mertz daughter of Philip Mertz at Heidelberg Union Church.

Johannes died on September 4 1832 and she died on July 8, 1842 in Heidelberg Township, Lehigh County, Pennsylvania. They are both buried in Heidelberg Union Curch Cemetery, Saegersville, Heidelberg Township, Lehigh County, Pennsylvania.

Heidelberg Township, Lehigh County, Pennsylvania originally included Washington Township and Slatington. It is located on Trout Creek and Jordan Creek.
